Date this Mate: Jessica

03 February, 2011

Check out what Jessica's friend Monica had to say about her:

Jess is one of those girls that has sooo much to give. There are many words that I could use to describe her, here are a few... Gorgeous Kind Gentle Intelligent Fun Most of all I would call her genuine, which might seem cliche but in this case is very true. Take the bull by the horns boys and find the rest out for yourself.

Date this Mate: Janine

10 November, 2010

Check out what Janine's friend had to say about her:

To be honest, I'm at a loss as to why J9 is still single. And I'm an excellent judge of character and style - both of which she possesses in spades.

You'll notice her as soon as she walks into a room - she's gorgeous but also has a smile that hits you between the eyes... speaking of eyes, hers are the most bizarre shade of blue. Really bright.

Anyway, more importantly than the initial physical appeal, is her passion (and I generally dislike that word but it kind of encapsulates it) for everything that she's into... music (in particular - she's been to more gigs than I've had soy flatties), photography, travelling, friends, cute kitty-cats, art, food... blah blah. She has beautiful tatts. And so many pairs of converse (waaay before they became mainstream)...

And she's been an ace friend since we were at high school. True story. And let's face it, as we used to sing at Brownies (well, I did... J9 was probably too cool for that)... make new friends but keep the old, one is silver and the other gold. I digress.

She'd be an excellent girlf. Really thoughtful, loyal, great cook, FUN as a fun thing, and totally magnetic. You'd be lucky, really.

Check out Janine's full profile now to see what she said in response to her friends great write-up!

Dating tips: The first date

20 October, 2010

Going on that first date can be an expectant and nerve-wracking experience.  Will he/she like me and will I like them? Will I say the right thing or totally embarrass myself?  Will there be any chemistry between us?

It’s a difficult thing to not over-analyse and other-think that first date.  The key is to keep it in perspective, don’t build the first date up too much in your mind, relax – and have fun!  Regardless of wether you make a connection or not, wouldn’t it be great if you could both say you had a good experience?

So how can you make that first date as great as it can possibly be? (even if you only have one together) Here are 5 tips from the datemymate team that can help you have a fantastic first date experience:

  1. Keep it in perspective.
Don’t build the first date up too much; this is a chance to meet someone new over a cup of coffee. If you get yourself too wound up over it, you’ll be too nervous to enjoy yourself.

  2. Choose the right venue.
A drink in a quiet bar, a little spot for lunch or coffee are great ideas. Avoid really noisy places where you won’t be able to hear each other or cinemas where you can’t talk at all. Unless you’re certain of it, try and avoid the big romantic gestures such as flowers and chocolates, you always want to keep something in reserve for those possible second and third dates!

  3. Be comfortable with what you’re wearing
This is of course depending on the situation, but try not to overdo the dressing up. If you feel comfortable you can enjoy being yourself.

  4. Be honest
If you’re feeling nervous, why not tell your date? Putting it out there could help your date identify with you and could also help diminish any awkwardness. It might also strangely make you feel more confident!

  5. When in doubt, go Dutch
If there’s a bill, it’s good practice to split it. It feels fair and avoids any awkwardness afterwards of one person feeling they have to pay the other something back.

The best strategy of any great first date is to go into it with the goal of simply enjoying yourself, instead of harbouring a goal to win your date over. That way you’ll come off as tenacious and carefree, qualities that are attractive to everyone!

Date this Mate: Ani

11 October, 2010

Check out what Ani's friend had to say about her:

Ani is awesome! I've known her for about 15 years, and can honestly say she is one of the coolest people on the planet. She is smart, opinionated, fiesty, and totally funny. Ani has a really strong will, and pushes herself in many creative endeavors, including photography, music, and writing. She is also a big nerd. I really love ani, and i'm sure you will too. So send her a message!

And what did Ani have to add:

Aw Misch, you are too kind. I'm supposed to add other stuff now aren't I? Perhaps I should clarify that when he says "big nerd" he actually means "big computer nerd". I work in the web industry where I make shit happen by managing the people who actually do the work and together we make things awesome and shiny. I also like video games, have favourite movie directors, and read a lot of books. Oh, and I can spell and know the difference between correct usage of a colon and a semicolon. I'm not actually a bookish freak as I also have social skills, enjoy leaving the house, am not afraid of the sun, large groups of people, or walking in high heels. POINT CLARIFIED.

If you like a girl who knows her way around a computer AND high heels, check out Ani's full profile now!

5 Quick Dating Tips

14 September, 2010
  1. Ladies -  be proactive, email, email, email. If you don't email the guy you like the look of, someone else will. Doubly true for the lads. Wait and you get nothing.

  2. Be sure of your photo. Is it a cracker? Is it in a nice setting, with a good backdrop? A photo of you in your kitchen after a few glasses of vino might not attract the attention you’re looking for.  Consider adding a few extra photos to your profile, it’s a great way to show off another side of your personality.

  3. Overcome those nerves - Once you've established a connection over a five or six e-mails, don't be shy on suggesting a date. Many daters talk to a few people at once, and will lose interest if you don't seem keen to take the plunge. What have you got to lose?

  4. Feed your coffee addiction - let's face it, it's all about the chemistry, spark and connection. You can't get that from a photo or email so make your first meeting a mini-date of 20-30 minutes at max and keep it to a coffee or a quick drink during the day. Feel the connection; see the spark or conversation is all going on? Make a second date! No? Move on. It will save you a lot of time, money and bad dates.

  5. No pain, no gain - go into the reality of Internet dating with eyes wide open. For every ten emails you send, you will probably only get 2 or 3 back. This is ok, it happens to everyone.

What are your top tips? Had any experiences you would like to share? Agree or disagree? Email us!

New Features

07 July, 2010

Since we launched the site in April we’ve made lots of changes and additions. Over the weekend we rolled out a great new feature that we are all particularly excited about.  It’s now possible to add additional photos to your profile to ‘pimp’ it out. Why not use the extra photos to display a different side of your personality or even show off a couple of great holiday snaps?

We’ve also made a few changes to how your friends page looks, making it easier to see who you’re connected to on the site. To encourage you to keep recommending potential profiles to your friends we have also made the recommending page much simpler to navigate.

And coming soon - More incentives and rewards from the dmm team for recommending your mates and meddling in their love lives. Seems like a ‘win win’ situation to us!

As always if you have any ideas for improvements to the site or any extra features you would like to see drop us a line on our FEEDBACK forum.

Date this Mate: Adam

06 July, 2010

Check out what Adam's friend had to say about him:

Adam is a quiet fella who opens up after he gets to know you. He is a keen fisherman and diver. And will stop at nothing to take over the world... He is one of the sleepers, as in he sleeps all the time. But, when he wakes up look out. Hits the gym occasionally and cooks a mean feed of sausages, onions and capsicum. That's actually all he uses. Adam found the recipe watching Jersey Shore from MTV, the one with all the douche Guido's acting pretty much like the stereotype. He can cook other things as well. Adam is a great guy because he will come and get you from the police station if you have been arrested the night before when you were drunk and play fighting in a park. Hopefully this can be changed later...

Like the food they eat on 'Jersey Shore'? make sure to have a look at Adam's profile.
